Lesson 9. Decide for peace.

Albert Einstein peace quote
A couple of things led me to choosing this shirt design this week. The first is that I am reading Bill Bryson's travel guide across the scientific landscape called A short history of almost everything. The second is that East Timor, a country close to my heart, is going through a heartbreaking spate of political and ethnic violence - not altogether unsurprising considering the brutality they have suffered under occupation. So I was pleased to find this Albert Einstein peace quote shirt.

It features a photo of Einstein with the quotation "If we have the courage to decide for peace, we will have peace." I found this shirt at the philosophy shop which is run by philosopher Geoff Haselhurst and his partner Karene Howie.

Lesson 8. Walk.

green man walk symbol
This is something we should all do more of - me included. The trouble is, the world we inhabit has become so fast paced that we do everything electronically or mechanically. That is, we email information to our colleagues instead of dropping a note on their desk. Or we drive to a friend's place to pick up our kids rather than walk their and, importantly, walk back with them. Or, I post a hotlink to this shirt instead of buying one and inviting you to walk over to my place to check it out. Ok, maybe that last one is a bad example. But I hope you get my point. And I hope I see you (walking) in one of these cool green man walk symbol t-shirts next time I'm zooming down the street on my motorbike.

Btw, the walk shirt is from an online shop that mainly sells music related merchandise and is run by graphic designer Carolyn Mayer.

Lesson 7. It's all about mothers.

all about mom
I know it hasn't been long since my last post about mothers, but you see I'm posting this on Mother's Day, 2006. Now before you get worried that I'm neglecting my mother to be with you, let me explain. Two of our kids have chicken pox right now, so I'm staying home to look after them while their mother and her mother and my mother all have a nice afternoon. The two patients are both having an afternoon nap, so you and I can have another little chat. And what better subject on a day such as this than mothers? After all, I couldn't always read. So I needed a teacher before t-shirts came into my life. And my first teacher was mum (or mom as you may prefer to say it). In recognition of the important job mothers do as our first teacher, have a look at this shirt that says It's all about MOM You don't have to wait until Mother's Day next year to wear it either. Put it on once a week and it will remind you to call your mother. Which makes it a very useful t-shirt in my opinion.

Lesson 6. The biggest mistake of all.

biggest mistake
I'm fairly new to blogging. I guess I could have waited until I was an expert, so I didn't make any mistakes. But personally, I go along with the sentiment I saw on another t-shirt. It says, in simple text, The only way to never make a mistake, is to do nothing. And... That is the biggest mistake of all! So bear with me and hopefully we will both learn plenty as we go along....me the blogger and t-shirt reviewer. And you, the reader, and student in the kindergarten of life.
